History has given us many great love stories but lately, it seems we hear more of casual hookups and breakups. Is it the change of times? Who knows. But personal touches, emotions and true love seem harder to find.

So when you find a modern-day real- life love story, hold on to it as a sign of hope and an inspiration that you will one day find your own. Finding two people who defy relationship distractions and manage to have loving connections is well worth celebrating and acknowledging.

These three couples are romance stories for the modern times. Theirs may not be as perfect as a Disney fairy talebut they are real people in real relationships and with real love.

How long have you guys been dating?

We have been together for four years and it will be five years in two months.

How did you first meet?

We first met in Thailand during New Year’s celebration on the beach at Phi-phi island.

What makes your relationship work?

H: The things that make our relationship work are communication, love, patience, understanding and respect.

F: The most important thing in a relationship is communication. Talk, talk, talk, always talk. Understanding also that we are not perfect. Of course always take care of each other. Each of us has our own way of taking care of the relationship: Hideo is a really funny person and he always make me laugh. I’m always hugging and kissing him.

What is the sweetest thing you’ve done for each other for Valentine’s Day?

H: The sweetest thing that I have done is one time, I prepared the house with candles, roses, flowers and nice music to surprise her when she arrived.

F: I made a cake for him! I baked it myself, even though he is always making fun of my cooking! I know he really loves it, he liked it so much!

What is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?

H: The perfect Valentine’s gift is to be with her, that is enough for me. Joy is the presence of my loved one.

F: The perfect Valentine's is to be with him and my little one. I have two Valentine dates now, Hideo and my daughter. I feel so blessed to have them both with me, so I don’t need anything else. But of course, if some gift comes, it will be welcomed. (Laughs)

As odd as it sounds, we count Christmases spent (together) instead of years. We also opt to not have a “manufacture date,” so in turn, no expiration date.

How did you first meet?

We first met in school, back in Brent on opposing houses. But we never really looked at each other in any other way besides as friends.

What makes your relationship work?

V: Appreciation and consideration for feelings and idiosyncrasies. Laughter as well: we crack up over the silliest jokes, we are each other’s greatest comics.

D: I’m cute! (Laughs) We’ve been friends for the longest time. I guess that’s the strong foundation.

What is the sweetest thing you’ve done for each other for Valentine’s Day?

V: Divine actually cooked for me last Valentine’s Day. At first, I was wondering why she kept asking me to check out this place, fix this, go elsewhere, etc. Little did I know that she was whipping up a storm in the kitchen.

What is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?

V: Time off without any distractions, and doing things together for the first time. New experiences help you grow and strengthen your bond. It’s amazing how insane but also profound conversations you can have with your partner are when it’s one on one.

D: Peace on earth. Can he give that? (Laughs) I want V to cook dinner.

subtle blocking: Mixing different colors can be risky but if you stick to similar more basic tones then you can show you are playful enough without looking like a candy cane. Stick to similar color hues like the cool shades of blue, grey and white. They go so well together because they evoke the same relaxed feeling.

Landing the bride of your dreams is not as easy as it used to be as competition nowadays is pretty stiff. How does one stand out amongst the crowd? As a journalist, I record events that go down in history with letters as my choice of medium. But the photo-journalist in me will be able to record history in fine, vivid, and arresting images only a Nikon camera can bring.

There is so much to write about in this world---so many things are happening in a split millisecond, so many things are worth telling other people about, so many things that can bring joy to other people---but when words are not enough, I'll have to count on a Nikon camera to say that thousand words.

This seasons color trend takes inspiration from what already surrounds us. A MANS MAN

So I had the fantastic opportunity to style the host of Survivor Philippines for his Billboards, tarps, and teaser video plus throughout the whole season and his promo tour.

To be honest, styling is very minimal. I didnt want him to look to polished or anything. Especially on the island my constant reminder was to always make him fit in well with the outdoors. Thus I made sure most of his clothes were ready to whether any condition. The people of Columbia sports were kind enough to sponsor most of his clothes used on the island. You really cant get anymore authentic than that.

I stuck to a color theme of the family of blues, khakis, fatigues, and grey. For his promo tour I plan to stick to the same color theme but making the looks abit more formal compared to the island, probably more blazer etc.

Stay tuned as Survivor Philippines Season 4 is almost out.

I was there in the island for a few weeks and I can promise you... alot of real drama.

A GUIDE ON HOW TO BE RIDICULOUSLY FIT

Now I wont claim to be an expert at fitness - I have never studied it but I have lived my whole life pretty much dedicated to it. And I want to be honest with you, see I’ve done all the tricks and cheats in the trade until finally realizing the only way to get ridiculously fit is changing your view on life. Yes as much as it is annoyingly overused, fitness is a lifestyle change.

The Truth

So that ultra muscled insanely ripped guy pictured in that fitness magazine showing you the exercises you need to do to get that body. So you tell yourself well okay, I can do this. And you do. But for some damn reason when you take your shirt off, although your body has improved it looks far different from said accompanying chiseled photo.

What you will need to achieve “Ultra muscled insanely ripped guy in picture”:

1.) Be an athlete

if not:

2.) Possibly steroids

3.) Laxatives

4.) SPF0 Tanning oil (cola/beer can work too)

5.) Buckets of baby oil

6.) A diet that is extremely gassy

7.) Single digit body fat

8.) Amazing photoshop skills

Yes, I am not kidding. This was my life for years. Until I wisened up and realized I am sick of this shit.

The Lowdown

Here is the score. Being insanely muscled or ripped does not necessarily mean you are fit. It does not mean you can run a mile, jump a fence or balance on a beam. Having 6 pack abs does not mean you have a strong core. All it means is being aesthetically pleasing while suffering on the inside.

Getting it together

Being fit is a combination of good food and exercise. Lets start with Food. Notice how I do not use the word diet, simply because dieting does not work. Its all about LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I myself am a vegetarian, and it has done wonders for me. I am not here to sell you on being veg, but I am here to tell you that the average person puts too much useless crap into their bodies. You really want to be fit? Well this is where your commitment comes in. Cut the sodas, greasy food, alcohol etc. That alone without the exercise will make a huge difference even within a week. What works for me can be different for you. But what is important is getting a good balance of everything. It is all about portions (unless you want to be ripped, well just eat raw eggs and boiled skinless chicken breast! blech) But I do not recommend that for long periods.

With exercising a variety is always key. Besides from keeping you from getting bored, a wide range of different activity constantly surprises your body thus never plateuing. My personal workout is:

1.) Weight lifting with interval training on the treadmill in the gym at least 3-4 times a week

2.) Swimming around 2km and then running 710km once a week

3.) Redcord suspension training 1-2 times a week

Redcord

Basically there are Multiple suspensions hanging from the ceiling where you use your bodyweight to train in this unstable environment. It trains you to engage each muscle, especially your core to keep your balance to achieve the exercise. It is a workout used originally by therapists and athletes for rehabilitation and strengthening and is now made available for ordinary people. The best thing about redcord is you engage more than one muscle with each exercise lessening training time. Plus core strength that is ready to be hit by a truck (sorry I exaggerate).

Now that you have learned all the tricks, cheats and the real way to get it done, it is time to display your macho glory. Rub that oil, get that tan and never ever wear a shirt.

TOP PICKS

My love affair with SM started long before I became their brand ambassador... it started long before I was a stylist... it started long before I realized I loved fashion.

Growing up one of my favorite sections in SM was actually the Surplus shop. A bunch of mismatched things that I could easily pick up for cheap when I needed to add stuff to my wardrobe. I remember too that time I became obsessed with skinny ties and bowties and the only place to buy them was SM! They had all those things long before any of the high street retail brands started carrying them. And in every single shade, color, print imaginable. Going to SM for me then was like going to a sanitized ukay shop. I would find the most amazing pinstriped linen shorts... all colors of tanks (we know how much I love those) etc etc.

As a stylist, it was the best place to hoard on the accessories. Where else could you buy more than a handful of things for under P5000! With that amount, it was good enough to last me a couple shoots. I love also how the finish of the products dont look cheap at all. Ive passed a couple of those SM accessories to look more than their actual price.

They recently had a media launch in Cebu, and I wish I was there to have seen it! (well of course a trip down there would have been part of the joy)

Im pretty psyched to be part of the SM family because its something I grew up with. I am pretty sure my kindergarten shoes were bought in SM... In fact a little challenge you should do is think how many things all around your house is from them?

Its pretty crazy.

But why wonder and look anywhere else... when really, they got it all for you.

MUSIC GENERATION

1.) What do you do?

(sorry not a musician/singer haha) I am a stylist/designer/writer/blogger. I am part of what I like to call the multi-slaher generation. Kids who like to do more than just one thing. But contrary to what others think, that being a slasher means mediocrity in many different fields, I find that all my slashes go hand in hand and compliments each, if not even elevating to a higher level each field that i do. Being a multi slasher simply means that I like to be able to take control of each project that I enter. Making my work more cohesive since I work on each aspect and angle of it. In this industry it is so important to be able to know how to do more than just one thing. Alot of the times clients have a very small budget, and being able to deliver to them a project that you can work on from start to finish is very appealing.

2.) How long have you been doing it?

Ive been doing whatever I do for about 2 years now. Ive been a designer the longest. I started out in VIKTOR jeans, designing a capsule line for them. Since we wanted to budget on the shoots, I ended up styling my own campaigns for them. When people saw the VIKTOR campaigns, they started to ask me to style for newspapers and magazines. When styling for newspapers and magazines, I always went for conceptual shoots that had more substance than just fashion. Thus the combination of my fashion editorials with actual written articles. When I was doing all this work, I wanted to create a site that could show off my portfolio, thus my evolution as a blogger. Every slash in my job description was a step forward from the former job, born out of necessity and need to put out work that had more dimension.

3.) How does music affect your everyday life?

Music is everything to me. I literally cannot work without my music turned on. It can make a simple walk to 711 an entertaining one. It is my strongest inspiration. The thing with me is that I am rarely inspired by anything physical. My eyes are the least important of my senses when creating. What moves me are emotions. And most of emotions are felt through music. Physical forms can sometimes be so limiting. It is delivered to you as is. But with music, each one can interpret in so many ways. So many emotions. A sad song to me can be happy to you.

4.) Why is music important to you and your career?

Like I said in the previous question, I cannot operate without music. Anything Ive ever created in my career as a stylist/designer/writer/blogger is a result of a song. Without music, I would be a hermit:D

The best part of being a stylist is probably getting first looks at what all the brands are rolling out for the season. I've been hard at work on a little project with a team that should properly blow everyone's brain away. The past week has gotten me to work with the best of the best. And its also handed me the most amazing pieces I am able to style-- and therefore some purchasing took place.

Here are only a few of my top picks as seen in this outfit post:

1.) Tish Tote (made to order)

Made of genuine leather you can pretty much customize to the different shapes and sizes you would want. She has got a couple sample designs to choose from. And the bag comes in a huge black package that'll make you feel like its christmas morning when opening. I almost peed in my pants when I saw the gift lying on my bed.

2.) Viktor Leather pants (made to order)

Ive been dying for leather pants for a really long time. Ive debated on making some on my own but there is a certain technique and style that I could not quite get right in my head. Well, trust my favorite customized jeans brand to do it perfectly. Rockstar sexy, even just wearing it with a tee makes a fucking impact. He's got an amazing selection of leather or leatherette (weather friendly) available.

3.) Boxfresh boots

These have got to be one of the sickest boots that have rolled out in Manila. This is the 2nd pair Ive gotten (thank you monsters prod.) And I aint P.R. -ing them just coz I got them for free. Seriously. All you gotta do is look at them to appreciate their beauty. I also like em coz I consider them a hybrid of a boot and sneaker. The look of a boot but the lightness of a sneaker. The best of both worlds in footwear.

I hate clean shoes. The more mud, dirt, dust, wine marks the better. But thats just me. How would you wear yours?

Utilitarian raincoats are very in season like this grey one with a pop of blue lining in the inside . Matching it with a checkered polo, khaki pants and workboots to dirty the look up abit. All items are from Boxfresh.

Doze off in extremely comfortable and ruggedly well put together clothes in this rainy weather. Cardigan, chambray buttondown, and jeans are all from Gas. Newsboy cap is from Kangol while leather sneakers are from Boxfresh.

Not everybody can wear a citrus colored suit.

But theyve got really amazing stuff! Very outdoors utilitarian. Has the feel of Band of outsiders and vintage workwear americana brand Redwing.

Definitely will be stocking up on alot from this brand. So expect to see my upcoming shoots with alot of boxfresh!

The recent launch of the Smart x HTC in Opus disguised itself as a party and just another event night where I get pretty sloshed. In typical manner we arrived pretty late and caught the end part of the launch. Just about the right time when people are downing the free drinks. (Which is why I got sloshed.)

Well in disguise I say because at that time in my head it was nothing but a party with a cool new phone to play with. Boy was I wrong. Morning afters are always a pain. But there are certain joys with a new phone in your hand. Like possibly discovering what its all about. And geez, (no fucking joke!), the HTC Sensation phone changed my technological(?) life. All capabilities my other phone does not have, the HTC Sensation covered.

I'm pretty basic technologically(?). I operate with an ancient laptop, simple camera and cellphone. Well the HTC has taken me out of my dinosaur age. Along with making me able to pretend I'm such a hipster with its automatic "vintage" camera and video camera effects, youtube application etc etc. My favorite has to be the fact that I can use the phone as a WIFI hotspot. Literally, now I can blog anywhere without having to worry about WIFI capabilities in a certain area.

And seriously, I've been watching the HTC commercials like crazy. They make me feel special... haha If watching that does not get my point across, well maybe you are not so different.
